Pep Guardiola has urged Manchester City to tie Raheem Sterling down to a long term new deal at the club, and said that all parties are under the assumption the club want him to stay and play a huge part in their future.
It shouldn’t really come as a shock, given how key Sterling has been for Pep, and while the manager said it’s not a certainty that Sterling will stay, he made it obvious that’s what the club want to make happen – and what they’ll try and make happen.
Sky Sports report Pep said: “He knows, his agent knows. We want him. Txiki [Begiristain, City’s director of football] spoke with him.
“It’s clear since the first day I arrived we want him, but the deals are the deals, and the agents are the agents, and the players are the players.
“So, at the end, I don’t know what is going to happen, but I assure you 100 per cent that the club, myself like a manager, sport director, even his team-mates – we want him to stay longer here.”
City have certainly made their support for Sterling clear, and even when the player was unfairly targeted by the press, made their thoughts and support very clear.
Sterling is of course someone who can create chances out of nothing, and who is a young star getting used to life in the spotlight – and while the player’s good actions and charity work often get ignored, his talent on the field always shines through and is a major part of why Guardiola wants to keep him.
