Creative Team Events in the USA

Mark Hunter

We last posted a blog on team building in the USA in 2013. Since then, we have seen a significant rise in enquiries, resulting in regular trips across the Atlantic to deliver our unique interactive events. There is always something extra exciting about working in the States and we relish the opportunity for making new connections and bringing our ideas to life.

I was lucky enough on my very first visit to the USA to see it from a stunning vantage point. As a young drummer working on the famous ocean liner the QE2, as luck would have it I was bound for New York on my very first voyage. Looking out from the bow of the ship, I eagerly awaited any sight of land. The first thing I saw, as the mist rose, was the Statue of Liberty greeting me after five days at sea across the wild Atlantic.

Who would have thought that many years later, I’d have the opportunity to work across the country from Newark to the Beverly Hills Hotel in LA!

These days, we might not arrive in such romantic fashion but certainly still bring excitement and wonder within the work we do.

The main reasons we attract interest from the USA are the uniqueness of our team building activities and how they are produced, and the ease in which the events are organised. Word soon gets around that the facilitators and artists we use consistently wow audiences wherever they go. They always leave fantastic event memories and ‘lock in’ whatever conference messages are required. Event organisers have enough on their plates sorting out presentation content, venue issues, transport and food. By providing no-fuss team activities that seamlessly fit into an agenda, we seem like a blessing!

So what have we been doing in the United States in the last few months?

I spent Paddy’s Day in Chicago, unleashing hundreds of pairs of rubber gloves on an unsuspecting conference. America might be the birthplace of Rhythm and Blues, but only we import back to them rhythm and rubber with our Clap Happy event!

From the urban streets of grimy south London, we sent over to sunny California our very own World Champion Beat Boxer. It may have been his unassuming surprise presence in the conference room, or the unbelievable sounds and beats of his opening performance, but I think it was his British accent that won the audience over to create one huge human beat box orchestra.

Human beatbox

We also had a One Voice event just outside New York and lots of separate drumming events all over the East Coast. I know we will be back across the pond very shortly as we have many pending enquiries. Until then, may we wish our transatlantic clients and colleagues all the best and hope to see them very soon.

Southampton Seafarers’ Center Celebrates Anniversary

Southampton Seafarers’ Center Celebrates Anniversary

International maritime charity Sailors’ Society has announced that it will celebrate the first anniversary of its Southampton Seafarers’ Center at 108 East Street Saturday (October 13).

Since its opening, the center, which is run by a committed team of staff and volunteers, has seen more than 7,000 seafarers walk through its doors.

The center is designed to feel like a home away from home and gives seafarers visiting Southampton time to relax away from the busy port environment. They can also access free Wi-Fi in order to contact loved ones back home.

The center offers a variety of facilities, including a pool table, TV and a kitchen area for seafarers to use.

The anniversary is being marked by the arrival of a new people carrier to transport seafarers around the city. The people carrier is sponsored by the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, Seafarers Trust, Trinity House and Seafarers UK and provided by Viking Garages of West End.

Melania Unsurprisingly Sides With Trump On How She Views Sexual Assault Survivors

First lady Melania Trump once again shattered the illusions that she’s secretly a member of the Resistance™ with her comments on the #MeToo movement and when it’s okay for sexual assault survivors to report their assailants.

On an interview with ABC World News Tonight, which took place during her four-nation Africa tour and will air Friday, Trump was asked about the sexual misconduct allegations against now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“I support the women, and they need to be heard,” she said, echoing Ivanka Trump’s internal comments and President Donald Trump’s initial take on Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, before he mocked her both on Twitter and at a Mississippi rally. “We need to support them, and also men, not just women.”

During the interview, her first one since becoming first lady, Trump was asked whether she thinks that alleged abusers have been treated unfairly.

“We need to have a really hard evidence that, you know, if you’re accused of something, show the evidence,” she replied, adding, “I do stand with women, but we need to show the evidence. You cannot just say to somebody, you know, ‘I was sexually assaulted’ or ‘You did that to me,’ because sometimes the media goes too far and the way they portray some stories, it’s not correct, it’s not right.”

WATCH: One-on-one with First Lady @MelaniaTrump. She’s opening up for the first time about her life and her time in the White House to @TomLlamasABC.”Being Melania – The First Lady” airs THIS Friday at 10|9c on @ABC:

— Good Morning America (@GMA) October 10, 2018

It’s unclear what constitutes “evidence” for Trump. Her own husband, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by 19 women, was recorded admitting to assaulting women. (The official White House position is that all of the women are lying.) Her comments also ignore how hard it is for survivors to come forward, particularly when they’re routinely disbelieved by the judicial system and there’s a nationwide crisis of evidence collection.

It’s not the first time she has echoed the president’s views, either. From peddling the conspiracy theory that President Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States to her hollow statement on the administration’s family separation policy and subsequent controversial fashion choices, Melania Trump is no prisoner. In fact, she might be the most Trumpian of them all.

Like what you see? How about some more R29 goodness, right here?

How Developer Fatshark Created Their Passion Project in Vermintide 2

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is a passion project developed by Fatshark, a studio which was formed ten years ago in Stockholm, Sweden. Over the years, Fatshark has built a solid foundation in the online multiplayer genre. Many of the core team members first met through tabletop gaming and it was during these late nights playing Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay that the foundation of the Vermintide franchise was formed.

Six years after Fatshark was founded – and six released titles later – the studio had the financial means, tech and developers to take on the rich and very visual Warhammer universe. It was a no-brainer; this was something we had always wanted to do. After lengthy and sometimes heated internal discussions, we made a pitch to Games Workshop, the developer and custodian of the Warhammer world. We proposed a game where players in co-op with others would take on the role as one of the many iconic heroes of the Old World and take on hordes of enemies in frenzied first-person melee action combat.

Since we wanted to pay homage to a game world enjoyed and experienced by so many for so long, we knew there would be no shortcuts when it came to character presentation, art style and attention to detail. Games Workshop agreed, and Vermintide went from idea to production.

Expanding the Boundaries of our Tech

Fatshark has always had strong technology, for example having developed the in-house game engine Bitsquid/Stingray which was licensed to others and eventually sold to Autodesk. Therefore, it is perhaps no surprise that our work to take Vermintide 2 to Xbox One is just as much engineer pride as lore nerdery. The joy of getting your tech to tune in and make wonders on the hardware is just as great as when you get to shake hands with long-time fans of Warhammer telling you “you nailed it”.

Vermintide 2 on Xbox Game Pass

For the second game in the franchise, Vermintide 2, we decided to work with Microsoft to make the title available on Xbox Game Pass on the same day as the release. For an indie developer — self-publishing a multiplayer game with a limited marketing budget — it’s key to have a strong player base and raise awareness of the title through word of mouth. Xbox Game Pass offers exactly that.

Even after release of the game, the whole Fatshark team is working on Vermintide 2 and will support the game just like we did with the first installment in the series. Events, DLC and existing content are all in the making!

MixPlay and Streaming Support

Vermintide 2 is very much about experiencing bravery and epic battles together with others, either with the players in your party, your streaming audience and through community events.

But our efforts for social gaming don’t end there. Through the Vermintide 2 MixPlay feature on Mxier, streamers can let their audience decide the battle’s outcome by voting live on what the next enemy spawn should be or reward players with potions and bombs. This makes for new and tricky situations where the players must fight tooth and nail to survive the mission with their audience pulling the strings behind the curtain.

How to Play Vermintide 2 Effectively

Vermintide 2 is a 4-player co-op action game designed to be played together with friends. A key component in the game is the challenge it provides. We have included 4 levels of difficulty to up the stakes as you improve your skill, starting with lowest to highest: Recruit, Veteran, Champion and Legend. The higher the difficulty, the greater the reward will be at the end of a successful mission. Check out some tips and tricks here.

Join the Fight for Survival

We are in this for the long run with the first major DLC of Vermintide 2 coming soon and more in the making. Thank you for reading and don’t forget to check out Vermintide 2, live now on Xbox Game Pass!

The 23 best World Cup players after the first round of action

Cristiano RonaldoGetty Images

The 2018 FIFA World Cup has arrived.

The first round of group stage fixtures is already over, with every single one of the 32 World Cup nations competing at least once already — and boy, has the tournament created drama.

Russia got the World Cup off to a thrilling start when it wowed crowds with a 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the curtain-raising game on June 14, before tournament favourites like Argentina and Brazil failed to register a win. Germany, the 2014 World Cup winners, even lost.

But who are the key players after round one?

Business Insider has put together a power ranking of the 23 best soccer players in Russia so far in the tournament, using statistical data from number-crunching soccer site The website grades players based on how the individual performs relative to his position, and ranks each player out of a maximum score of 10.

Keep scrolling to see who made the list, ranked by score in ascending order.

23. Iceland goalkeeper Hannes Thór Halldórsson — 7.86.

Considering Argentina can boast elite forwards like Lionel Messi and Sergio Agüero, the country was expected to bulldoze through Iceland on June 16.

But Iceland flipped the pre-match script and stunned the South American side by claiming a 1-1 draw, with goalkeeper Hannes Thór Halldórsson earning rave reviews for his role between the sticks.

Halldórsson even saved a penalty from Messi (see picture above) and if that is not worthy of a place on this list, we don’t know what is.

22. Russia defender Yuri Zhirkov — 7.87.

Yuri Zhirkov is the lowest-ranked entrant from the five Russians on this list.

The left back helped get the very best out of key man Aleksandr Golovin thanks to his intuitive link-up play with the midfielder in Russia’s outstanding 5-0 slaughter over Saudi Arabia.

Zhirkov was ambitious with the variety in his passing but did not neglect his defensive duties with two clearances and four tackles from the back.

21. Belgium attacker Dries Mertens — 7.99.
Getty Images

Had he not scored a wondergoal, there is no doubt that Dries Mertens would have failed to make this list.

This is because he hardly did anything else that was worthy of note in Belgium’s victory over Panama on Monday.

However, goals mean a lot. Especially when they arrive, in spectacular fashion, when the team needs them most.

Mertens scored Belgium’s first goal of the game with a brilliant volley in the 47th minute, and it helped the team on its way to a confidence-boosting 3-0 win.

These are the 10 best-selling sneakers of the year so far (NKE)

1 Nike

The NPD sports-industry analyst Matt Powell recently revealed a list of the 10 top-selling sneakers of the first quarter of 2018.
All 10 were shoes made by Nike. Nine were either Nike or its Jordan brand, and the 10th was a shoe by Converse, which is also a Nike subsidiary.
For the first time in months, there were no Adidas shoes among the top 10.
None of the top-selling sneakers were performance shoes, continuing the trend away from performance sneakers.

Nike is dominating the sneaker industry.

According to the NPD sports-industry analyst Matt Powell, nine of the 10 best-selling sneakers in the first quarter of 2018 were made by either Nike or its Jordan brand. The remaining sneaker was the Converse All Star Low, which is also made by a Nike subsidiary. Powell also noted that for the first time in months, no Adidas shoes were among the 10 best-selling sneakers, in part because the company is diversifying its portfolio.

He explains in his note that the first-quarter sales figures show a continuing shift away from performance and toward lifestyle, thanks to the ongoing athleisure trend. The $65 Nike Tanjun remained in the No. 1 spot based on sales. In February, Powell told Business Insider the affordable shoe posting such strong sales reflected a shift toward a more moderate market.

See which other sneakers are top sellers based on sales:

10. Nike Flex Contact
9. Nike Air Force 1 Low
8. Jordan IX Mid
